CONTOUR dining-table
The Contour table was designed by architect Maurice van Bakel.
The combined slanted and straight lines of the table top provide a variation in perspective and distance between the people sitting at the table.
The table design derives from the desire to create a table that fits both the straight lines of most architecture and the more rounded shapes that we appreciate in the use of furniture and objects.
On one side, the table top has a straight line so that the table can be placed parallel to the back wall, which can save a considerable amount of space for a better passage in the room.
The table top is supported by a monumental base structure consisting of only two pillars, a round column and a flattened leg.
The flattened leg, which is visible in the top, forms a separation between the large and the more intimate table area.
The round column ensures maximum freedom of movement around and under the table.
As an architect, I always want to create designs for our projects that follow my design philosophy, designs in functional simplicity, proportions, detail and special selected materials. The table presented here, manufactured in the Netherlands, is made of solid walnut with a natural finish in linseed oil, which gives it a touch of contrast and warm tactility.
CONTOUR wall-shelf
The Contour wall shelf was designed by architect Maurice van Bakel.
It’s serves as a multifunctional display platform for a variety of large and small collectibles. Objects and collectibles which embody personal stories and memories. Sensitive curves and rounded edges give it an aesthetic and tactile approach.
Placed on the wall, they can be placed on its own or as a group. Behind a raised back panel (which acts as a horizon) is an integrated hanging system that can carry a great weight.
As with all designs by Maurice van Bakel, it honors functional simplicity in both the design and the selection of honest and pure materials.
The wall shelf is made of solid walnut with a natural linseed oil finish, which gives it a touch of contrast and warm tactility.
