In the former main entrance of the Park Hotel Amsterdam, near to the exclusive PC Hooftstraat and the leafy Vondelpark, Maurice van Bakel created an influential interior for Hip hair salon and boutique. The space was stripped down to its bones, and new walls (finished in natural plaster) were added with cut-out holes and mirror panels, giving the space a sculptural appearance. Large, colourful fiittings, scattered around like children’s building blocks, generated a lively area. At night, a special indirect lighting programme illuminated the space, giving passers-by a glimpse of Hip’s mysterious inner world.
